The Viewer’s Choice Battle of the Bands was founded on April 30, 2005.  The event was created with four bands: Pebblebrook HS (Mableton, GA) ; Creekside HS (Fairburn, GA) ; G. W. Carver HS (New Orleans, LA) ; and Northeast HS (Macon, GA).  The mission of this event was to create a band event with “the student” in mind for the twenty-first century.  The first event was originally planned to be held at Lake Winniepesaukah (Rossville, GA) but Six Flags over GA won the bid.  After sitting down with students, it was expressed that they were tired of selling tickets to an event where they sit and only perform once.  With careful planning, it was decided to turn one event into a weekend of events!

The Viewer’s Choice Battle of the Bands provides an optional “Meet & Greet” event in which each band produces a team of five people including the band director.  These teams may compete in bowling or basketball.  The prizes are awarded to the band director.  The next day, the bands compete for several prizes and scholarships in a side by side eight round battle.  The bands are adjudicated by a panel of College Band Directors, Corporate Sponsors, and Parade Scouts.  When the “Battle” is over, the students return their instruments to the buses and then enjoy Six Fags for the rest of the day!  The final day is an optional BBQ / farewell party.
